How To Improve Memory Techniques
There are many ways of how to improve memory. We all learn and respond in a different way so if one technique doesn't work for you, don't despair and try another one.
One of the techniques that caught my eye is the visual mnemonic system famed mentalist and illusionist Derren Brown used to beat a casino at Black Jack. This technique requires some imagination and fantasy on your part. The principle is to hook connecting idea to objects to be remembered in such a way that right objects are pulled out from your memory automatically.
'How To Improve Memory' Mnemonic Technique:
Test Yourself!
Here is Derren's video where you can test your memory and where he also explains the technique I mentioned in detail:
I didn't pass this test initially … then I tried with the technique described in the video and bingo! I don't say I'm ready to beat a casino but it's impressive how much more one can remember. It's great if you need to remember lists …
By the way, for most people it's easier to recall an image if you put your head and shoulder back and look over to your left and slightly up. On the other hand, if you want to stimulate your imagination, look over to your right and up.
Scientists say that as we get older, especially after 50, our ability to retain information slowly declines and learning new things becomes more difficult. However, there are some 96 year olds with great memory! You could argue it's in the genes. However, most often it's the brain exercise and techniques they use.
The bottom line is: There are ways how to improve memory and it's never too late to learn the memory techniques and exercise the brain but it's better to do it before our brain turns into an unresponsive sponge!
